Mega Man universe - These events take place an undisclosed amount of time after The Elf War, prior to the timeline of the Neo Arcadia era represented in the Mega Man Zero series.[/size]
A brilliant and decorated scientist in the field of electrical engineering, Doctor Marcus Everest, was petitioned to be the lead developer in the construction of a new, highly advanced space station orbiting Earth which could be internally terraformed in order for its inhabitants to live self efficiently, without aid from the Earth. This was to be the first pivotal step in colonizing space.
Though Dr. Everest was renowned for his development of Reploids and lower-scale machinery, he was honored to be presented with the opportunity to work on such a grand project. The aspect of internal terraforming - including machinery which could produce its own oxygen - was left to researchers more accustomed to the field. Everest's primary focus was the construction of the station itself.
An alien substance derived from meteorites and other extraterrestrial matter, it is a substance of unparalleled resilience. Stronger in density than even diamond, it also had the ability to absorb, or displace, any known form of energy.
Due to the fact that the substance was too resilient to be tempered or re-shaped, coupled with its obscurity and overall rarity, it was never considered to be a practical material in use of construction.
Unbeknown to all was that Dr. Everest had apparently discovered a means of refining the substance. Furthermore, he was able to acquire it in abundance; though how is unknown to this day. Some theorize he stumbled upon a large deposit, while other theories suggest he may have discovered a means of synthesizing it.
Whatever the case may have been, he implemented the material into the construction of the space station, now dubbed 'New Eden'. The material was snuck in as normal materials, and none but the doctor himself knew it was being placed within the space station.
What eventually lead to Dr. Everest's rebellion against Earth is a mystery, though the fact that he reinforced the New Eden space station with Stratolite prior to his turn suggested it was a pre-meditated ambition.
In the final weeks of New Eden's construction, the human staff were all killed off by Reploids constructed by Dr. Everest, and the doctor declared war against both humanity and Reploids alike. With the space station being his base of operation, he deployed countless Reploids to exterminate all life on Earth, in addition to a series of powerful weaponry employed by the station itself.
The the various governments of Earth out-manned Everest's Reploids several times over in volume, the Earth quickly found that its forces were being pushed back, and were in fact losing. The reason being that all of the Reploids at Everest's command were constructed of Stratolite; making them all but impervious to any and all attacks thrown at them.
A true testament of 'quality over quantity', a mere handful of these robots were capable of wiping-out entire battlefields of enemy soldiers, based solely on the fact that they were practically untouchable. Because New Eden was also shielded by the same substance, an attack against Everest himself was unthinkable. Earth's forces were in dire need of a solution.
Two counter weapons were developed during the war as an effective means of stopping Everest's impressively armored soldiers.
The first was a specifically tuned and customized particle laser, which could generate a high-density beam which was not only powerful enough to pierce the Stratolite, but also powerful enough as to be unable to be absorbed or deflected by the alloys shielding capabilities.
However, it was the second invention which would turn the tide of the war; a weapon which turned the Stratolite's ability to absorb energy against it.
This weapon was an electromagnetic emitter which could produce electromagnetic waves of a particular nature as to be absorbed specifically by Stratolite. The energy did not damage the Reploids themselves, but rather, would eventually course through the bodies into the Control Chip of the reploids, effectively destroying their programming and 'minds' and de-activating them internally.
What made this weapon unique was that its effect only had an impact on Reploids constructed of Stratolite, with no harmful effects on standard Reploids or human beings. Because of this, discharges of this energy could be set off to encompass extremely wide areas, effectively taking-out entire battlefields of Everest's robots without harming Earth's forces whatsoever.
With his soldiers vanquished, only Everest himself remained as a threat. A series of special missiles housing the electromagnetic discharger were constructed with the purpose of shutting-down the systems of New Eden.
While the external weaponry of the space station was able to shoot-down several of these projectiles, some managed to break through and collide with the station. Systems failed throughout the ship, and with the power regulation modules de-activated, the energy systems of the station overloaded, resulting in an implosion.
Though Dr. Everest's body was never recovered from the debris, he was presumed dead. And thus ended the Eden War.
Years passed, until the memory of the Eden War faded to mere history. However, once the Reality Crash occurred, a new threat emerged who seems to be connected with the late Dr. Everest.
This mysterious individual goes by the title of Dr. Stratos. Remaining obscure and unknown to the world, he hides behind his second in command; the final creation of Everest, a powerful Reploid known as Substance.
Though Dr. Stratos is clearly continuing Dr. Everest's research concerning Stratolite his connection, if any, to Everest personally remains to be determined, as well as more information concerning his identity. What is known is that he is using the temporal distortion to his advantage, and salvaging sources from various worlds for use in his robot construction.
