Debilitas is a major character from the survival horror game Haunting Ground (Demento in Japan).
Fiona Belli had survived a car crash that killed her parents, but she woke up in a terrifying castle, Belli Castle. She eventually met a white German shepherd named Hewie, as well as primary enemies within the estate.
One of these enemies was a hulking, deformed man known as Debilitas, the grounds’ gardener and handyman. It is unknown how he became deformed, but it is possible that he has been genetically engineered. He was the one who captured Hewie in the first place, and mistook Fiona for a life-sized doll when he met her. Because of this belief, Debilitas relentlessly stalked Fiona and Hewie until he was injured by a fallen chandelier in a chapel. He survived, but when he looked to his elusive prey he saw an angelic light surround said prey (in reality, Fiona merely stood in front of bright stained-glass windows), and immediately felt guilty for his hazardous actions.
Later, he again met Fiona and Hewie. This time he wasn’t a threat; in fact, he practically groveled to Fiona, and gave her a key that would aid her. Debilitas encountered the pair one final time; before Fiona and Hewie finally leave the castle, Debilitas and Fiona noticed each other and stared for a long moment, before the deformed man bowed courteously, and watched the two leave. The reformed Debilitas, then the only surviving member of Belli Castle (not including failed ‘experiments’), engaged in tending the garden, humming a merry tune as he clipped hedges.
Personality: Despite his hulking size and immense strength, Debilitas is mentally retarded; he has the mentality and mannerisms of an infant. Although he means no harm, he can’t help but be incredibly dangerous when he’s overly aroused. As previously mentioned, he spent most of the time in Haunting Ground/Demento as an antagonist, until he reforms after “seeing the light.” He currently lives alone in Belli Castle; he hasn’t left since Fiona and Hewie escaped… yet.
(Note: This profile is relevant to the game’s “A” ending; it is possible to kill him in the game, but he will obviously be alive in Reality Crash.)
Debilitas seems to understand what he’s told, but he is unable to speak fluently. He mostly grunts, but he can speak short, garbled phrases, such as “My dolly!”, “Where is you?” and “Out’a my way!”
As mentioned above, Debilitas has a strong penchant for dolls, akin to a young child; his favorite toy is a bisque doll.
